Operation Christmas Child
Every day is a great time for giving to others. Of course this time of the year we tend to do even more. One of my favorite things to do if you can get a spot is to go to Charlotte and work at the Operation Christmas Child warehouse and help prepare the shoe boxes to go out around the world. This year I was able to get some spots on Black Friday to work a 4 hour shift. Did you know that the Charlotte warehouse processes over 2 million shoe boxes in a 3 week period? That's a lot of shoe boxes but over 30 thousand people come to Charlotte to make it happen. This year we came on the day that they process boxes that go to sensitive areas. They are all in white shoe boxes, have no religious symbols, nothing made in Israel or have American flags on the items. Those are the conditions for allowing the shoe boxes in to certain areas.
I have to say this is much better than fighting the crowds shopping and this year two of my kids were able to go with me. If you ever get a chance and you live close enough to one of their warehouses I highly recommend going. It's very rewarding and you get great ideas of what to put in your boxes next year.
